In 1995, we commenced offering a concrete grooving service to the local farming community. Concrete on farm yards and cattle sheds becomes slippy with constant scraping and cleaning, as a result cattle can slip and injure themselves. We have the answer. A specialist treatment, which improves grip and prevents slips and falls. This business trades as RS Contracts.
What do we do ? We cut a series of grooves in your slippy concrete, first going one way, and then going at 90 degrees across the first set of grooves, to create a grid effect
Why do we cut both ways ? Grooves that cross a cows path, give about 50% more grip than grooves in line with the cows direction of movement
Will grooves fill up ? Grooves are 'U' shaped therefore muck will not become compacted in them. Wet muck acts as a lubricant on your smooth concrete, with the concrete grooved the cows foot feels the groove through the muck. If muck is allowed to dry on the grooves then because of their 'U' shape the next time the area becomes wet the grooves will clean out.
Can we groove slats ? Yes we can groove slats as well as solid concrete, however on older single slats, it may be possible only to groove in one direction, as there may not be enough width to groove along the slat.
How long will the grooving last? This will depend on a number of factors such as how much wear the area gets and how hard the concrete is, but as a rule of thumb grooving should have an effective life of between 6 and 8 years, after this time the grooves will still look OK but the sharp edge that was made when the grooving was first done has now started to round off. As the edge looses its sharpness so the grip will fade.
Equipment: We use the latest cutting machines from Europe, our machines are self powered and compact, and don't require any external power supply. We have several machines and operators available, and can therefore complete very large areas between milkings
Accessibility: We can operate in the smallest of areas, including, parlours and narrow passages fitted with automatic scrapers
Operatives: Our operatives are very experienced in this work, having completed many thousands of Square metres in the past ten years
Area of Operation: As RS Contracts is based in Cookstown, which is geographically situated in the centre of Northern Ireland, we can reach most areas within 1 Hour. We therefore cover all of Northern Ireland, and the Border Counties of Republic of Ireland. If you are in any area outside of this, we are prepared to travel, if you have a large enough area to cover our travel costs
